Now’s the time to invest in your website

If your business website is due an update, there has never been a better time to do it than now. Your digital marketing efforts can make such a huge difference to the overall performance and reputation of your business, so why wouldn’t you invest in your site? It may seem like a big commitment and change to get a whole new website, but if you want to stay ahead of the game, attract visitors and stay in line with current trends, it’s a no-brainer.

Here we look at why you should invest in your website in 2018 and the benefits that will come along with a fresh new look.

Is your website responsive?

When updating your website, you need to review and consider how it works across all devices. It’s no good if it only works well on a desktop as you are effectively cutting your visitors in half if not more. Your website will stand a much better chance at ranking highly on Google if it works well across mobile, tablet and desktop. Google recommends that all pages are mobile-friendly for a better user experience and have a test to find out if your webpage is easy to use on mobile devices. After all, the majority of people are browsing on-the-go.

Page speed

The speed of your website is extremely important to attract visitors. Many experts suggest your pages should load in less than two seconds, especially if you want to bring organic search visitors to your website.

Improving user experience

As well as having a fast and responsive website to improve the user experience, your site also needs to have an effective layout that is simple yet effective. Conversion rate optimisation (CRO) is an effective marketing tool to use which will help turn your visitors into customers. Using multiple techniques, it will help discover the user journey and how they behave on your website. In turn, this will allow you to change and amend your website to ensure optimal performance.

Achieve technical excellence

If your website doesn’t work as the user expects, you will see low conversion rates and decreased traffic. You need to ensure your website is technically sound for 2018. This includes looking at the speed and how mobile friendly your site is, as well as how it works on slower connections such as 3G and if you are using HTTPS to show your website is secure.

You also need to assess the payment methods you offer and if they are up-to-date, if you have any duplication across your site if your URLs have effective names and ensure Google can effectively crawl your site.

It’s important to remember that investing in your website isn’t something you just do once and reassess in years to come. Your website needs to grow and transform as trends change and user’s needs become more complex. Having a digital marketing strategy in place is essential for your website to evolve and not be a static site lost amongst the competition.
